East Asia Summer School on Artificial Intelligence
Kyoto, Japan, August 1979
The 6th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence to be held
in Tokyo in August 1979 will gather leading researchers from all over the world.
Although there has been little research in artificial intelligence in East Asia
outside Japan, there is increasing interest, and the 6th IJCAI provides an
opportunity for Asian scholars to observe this field at less expense than a
trip to Europe or America.
In order to provide a further opportunity for researchers who want to enter
the field or learn about it, it is proposed to hold a two week intensive
summer school in artificial intelligence with the participation of leading
scholars from America, Europe and Japan.
The school can accomodate 50 participants, and the costs must be paid by
the tuition fee which will be $800 (Y160,000). Lectures will be in English.
Students should already know how to program in some programming language.
Besides the lectures, students will get practice programming in LISP and
running their programs in an interactive environment. Thee will also be
demonstrations of AI programs.
Tentatively the lectures will cover:
1. The LISP language and its use in AI
2. Pattern matching
3. Problem solving systems
4. Theorem proving
5. Computer vision and speech recognition
6. Epistemological problems of AI
7. Other topics:
Letters stating tentative inention to participate should be sent to Prof. S.
Takasu, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan so that places can be tentatively
reserved. If there aren't enough participants the school won't be held.
